BULLI

The dark exterior of this project belies a light and bright interior, with double-height ceilings and multiple living spaces. From the outset you’re invited on a journey from dark to light, moving from the squat silhouette of the front façade. as the home draws you through to the sweeping ocean views and large outdoor areas.

From the Building Designer:

Backing onto a reserve, and with outstanding ocean views, the brief for this project was to design a single storey residence maximising views, however protected from the south east coastal winds. The design is based around a private open courtyard as the centre of the house and with direct ocean views through the living areas.”

The exterior combination of black and white cladding delineates the living areas from the sleeping quarters, and the clever inclusion of HH450 Heka Hoods in the interior courtyard, combined with black window and door frames, creates a seamless connection between the two.  Utilising a downward return as a vertical fin adds further protection from the South-East weather and highlights the corner glass feature window.

With a nod to the old beach shacks of the region, this project is an understated yet bold take on a classic design.
